Pets and animals

Pets, livestock and local wildlife play a positive role in the community's wellbeing, and bring pleasure and companionship to many of our residents.

Do-Do the Right Thing

Please continue to pick up after your pooch and keep our shared spaces clean, tidy and safe.

Responsible pet ownership

You have an obligation to care for the health and wellbeing of your pet, as well as a duty to ensure their activities don’t interfere with your neighbours or the environment.

Microchip and register your pet

If you own a cat or dog and live in NSW, you are legally required to microchip and register your pet. This helps us quickly return your animal to you, if it is lost, injured or stolen.

Albury Animal Care Centre

Albury Animal Care Centre impounds and cares for lost, injured, stray and unowned dogs and cats.

Aggressive animals and attacks

For everyone’s safety and wellbeing, we enforce a range of regulations for dog and cat owners. These include registration, rules about barking dogs, and restrictions on dangerous dogs

Feral and Infant Animals Procedure

Under section 64(2) of the Companion Animals Act 1998, this endorsed Procedure assists in the management of animals that are feral and a danger to handle, and infant animals that need constant intensive care that have been lawfully seized or surrendered.

Complaints about animals

We respond to a range of animal and pet concerns including collection of stray animals and investigation of complaints about animals.

Snakes

Albury’s proximity to the Murray River and local bushlands means we have a rich diversity of native animals including several species of snakes.

Bees

Bees play an important role in the pollination of native plants and crops across Australia.
OUR
ACKNOWLEDGMENT

AlburyCity acknowledges the Wiradjuri people as the traditional custodians of the land in which we live and work and we pay our respects to Elders past, present and future for they hold the memories, culture, tradition and hopes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people that contribute to our community.
